LCSD Excellence! A Publication of Lauderdale County Schools Volume VII Issue VII February 2020 Pathway to Progress We have endured an abundance of rain this month.  Although the rain has been relentless and may have caused some inconveniences, it is necessary if we want to enjoy the fruits of spring.   Similar to the cycle of nature, educators must also endure various shifts in order to cultivate the success they desire for each student. As Superintendent of the Lauderdale County School District, I am honored to work with such a dedicated group of people.  Because of your efforts, our district is being recognized at various levels.   I had the pleasure of meeting with the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council and Teacher Advisory Council this month.  As always, I was impressed by the level of research, the level of maturity, and the level of expectation these two groups presented.  We had a very productive meeting, and we are confident about the Dr. John-Mark Cain, Superinten dent changes taking place to improve our district.  One area of improvement is our commitment to update and use relevant technology.  We are currently in the training phase of our Canvas implementation.  We know our use of this Learning Management Platform will not only open doors for our professional development, but it will also help us better serve our students while offering an abundance of resources to both students and parents.   Another example of commitment in our district is the support our school board provides.  As I attended the Mississippi School Board Association (MSBA) Conference this month, I was fortunate to witness the induction of our LCSD Board President, Mr. Kelvin Jackson, to the MSBA Board.  Mr. Jackson is a great leader in our district, and I consider it an honor to work with him.   Finally, I congratulate the entire Lauderdale County School District team for a job well done!  On February 19th, our district received the MSBA Lighthouse Award. This recognition is awarded to districts that achieve a “B” on the state accountability scale.  I am very proud of our district, and I am eager to celebrate an “A” status in the future.  As the rain tapers off, and the weather begins to warm up, I encourage you to stay the course.  Keep perfecting the Fundamental 5, and remember how important your profession is to our community, our state, and our country.  You are the reason the Lauderdale County School District is Excellent!  Respectfully, Dr. John Mark Cain Superintendent If you are receiving this through Peachjar, please visit www.lauderdale.k12.ms.us to view the LCSD Excellence newsletter in its entirety.
