LCSD Launches Strategic Plan
The beginning of a new school year always brings with it excitement and
energy. The Lauderdale County School District is off to a great start! We know
the time and preparation it takes to make the beginning of the school year a
success, and I have been pleased to see the smiles of parents, teachers, staff,
administrators, and directors as we began our 2019-2020 school year. As a
district, we have already accomplished several essential goals. We launched a
mentor program for teachers; we have completed the LCSD Strategic Plan
https://www.lauderdale.k12.ms.us; we have plans to install new cameras on our
buses, and two of our elementary schools have been awarded the Barksdale
Reading Institute Grant.
First, we want to welcome our new and novice teachers to the district. In July
we launched the LCSD New and Novice Teacher Mentor Program. This
program is designed to support our new and novice teachers and provide

leadership opportunities for our veteran teachers. We want to thank our
mentors who have committed to helping LCSD recruit and retain teachers.
Additionally, our district is moving forward with our bus safety and energy audit project. Our number one priority is to have
safe and orderly schools. To help, we have plans to have our buses equipped with new security cameras to deter student
misbehavior, and our campuses are getting energy efficient lighting, plumbing, and a plethora of security updates.
Finally, we are proud to announce Northeast Elementary and Southeast Elementary Schools have been awarded the
Barksdale Reading Institute Grant. This grant allows the schools to each host a “Parent Academy” for parents of children
entering kindergarten next school year and provide guidance and early academic supports.
As we look ahead, let us remember our motto for this year, “Cut Out the Clutter and Focus.” I believe our greatest
accomplishments are yet to come. We must commit to quality classroom instruction every day and the mindset we are
changing the lives of our children. Together, we will make a positive impact on our community and our region because we
strive for LCSD Excellence!
Respectfully,
Dr. John-Mark Cain, Superintendent
Lauderdale County School District
