Shadow Girl Eli McFarlane She waves at me as I bid her farewell Her fingertips rushing to meet mine I reach toward the wall Her slender body curving, bending She is freer than I Forever freed from the restraints of solid limbs That I am bound with until life ends Content to be still while I am She watches Her featureless form giving nothing away As soon as I run So does she I can never catch her Nor can I escape her With an invisible bond, we are chained together Rendering it impossible to discern Who moves first I bend to whisper in her ear She leans closer to hear me For if she has a voice It is ever silenced If she has a heart It is ever still If she has a soul It is one with mine 27
