Award-winning actress Ana Ortiz (“Ugly Betty” and “Devious Maids”)
received the Creative Vision Awards at the 35th annual Upton Sinclair
Awards on April 20, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton. She was honored by the
Liberty Hill Foundation for using her celebrity and philanthropy to in-
fluence social change and advance social justice. Celebrating 40 years,
the Liberty Hill Foundation is L.A.’s premier social justice foundation,
supporting L.A. organizations and grassroots leaders working for racial
justice, environmental justice, LGBTQ justice and economic justice.
When it comes to raising a voice on politics, women’s empowerment,
immigration, LGBTQ rights, and domestic abuse, Ortiz is using her ce-
lebrity platform to shine a light on social justice. As the daughter of the
first Puerto-Rican city councilmember in Philadelphia, politics and ac-
tivism are in Ortiz’s blood. During Ortiz’s acceptance speech, she gave
an impassioned speech about LGBTQ rights and the impact the tv show,
“Ugly Betty,” had on the gay community. Award-winning actress Ana

mischief once and a while. Jane The Virgin's star Montserrat (Montse) Hernández was born
in Dallas, Texas. She is a Mexican-American actress, voice talent, singer and writer. She began
acting at a young age doing national commercials. Later, in 2009, she had the opportunity
to play the role of Natalia in the award-winning children series Barney. At age 12, Montse's
family moved to Los Angeles, California so she could pursue a professional acting career. The
move proved fruitful, as Montse landed the titular role of "Young Jane" in the CW's award-
winning show Jane The Virgin. Since then, she has also recurred in popular series such as
NBC's The Night Shift (2015) and USA's Colony (2016). The year 2016 also marked Montse's
feature film debut in the movie Lowriders, acting alongside Eva Longoria, Academy Award
Nominee® Demian Bichir, Melissa Benoist and Gabriel Chavarria. In early 2017 Montse land-
ed the starring role in the new Cartoon Network show Ben 10. Her work include several short
films and animated shows she has scripted, as well as numerous other projects currently in
development. Montse Hernández founded a charity called Special Love, whose mission is to
supports kids and adults with disabilities. Montse also supports Union Rescue Mission for the
homeless.
