Norma Camero Reno
2019 Latina Mover N Shaker
by: Jolie Gonzalez-Padilla
I have received many awards including Hispanic
Woman of the Year, but more importantly,
I have been able to help people with my
knowledge, changing people’s lives for the better.
LTM: What part of Florida do you live in – are you
from Florida?
Norma Camero Reno: I live in Tampa. I came here for a va-
cation. I was born in El Tigre, Venezuela, my family is from
Venezuela.
LTM: Tell me about what you do for a living
Norma Camero Reno: I am an International Attorney; however
I am retired, and all I do is community volunteer work
LTM: Tell me about what organizations you are a part of
Norma Camero Reno: SHERIFF HISPANIC ADVISORY
BOARD SHAC, TAMPA HISPANIC HERITAGE, CASA VEN-
EZUELA TAMPA BAY,
LTM: As a Latina leader in the community, business, or other…
what has been your biggest challenge and how have you been
able to overcome it:
Norma Camero Reno: Being a woman in a man’s world, getting
respect for what I do. I believe my work with my community
is how I have gained respect for what I do. I tried to keep well
informed and do things the right way but most importantly is
my honesty
LTM: How important is being a Latina to you
Norma Camero Reno: I am very proud of my heritage and be-
ing able to represent us Latina women here and internationally
making sure that people know where I come from and how far
we have gone especially in this country
LTM: What is your favorite type of musica, and what is your fa-
vorite song?
Norma Camero Reno: Jajajajaja I like reggaeton, and I do not
have one specifically I like better
LTM: IF you can go back to let’s say 18-21, what are some of the
pivotal decisions that you have made that you would do differ-
ently-
Norma Camero Reno: I would not have gotten married so young
and having children before 30, I would have finished my career
before and travel before marrying. Other than that, I would not
have changed anything else.
Norma Camero Reno: Engineering, human resources, business
LTM: Tell us about what kind of projects you currently have go-
ing on-
Norma Camero Reno: Right now I have a project I consider im-
portant because it benefits anybody who comes to this country
not knowing the language and how different the system and the
government here works, I have a class I teach for free ENGLISH,
CIVICS AND GOVERNMENT to whoever wants to learn. I
have a room at ANA G MENDEZ UNIVERSITY which I am
very grateful for their help and my students after six months of
the class are speaking English, and they know a lot about the
government, and I am sure they learned a lot about civics also.
I am also helping my country Venezuela sending goods and
medicines to help my people and here I have a presentation ex-
plaining the situation in Venezuela so people would know what
is going on there and how dangerous it is for us here having
enemies so close to us.
LTM: What can we expect to see from you in the future-
Norma Camero Reno: I want to leave a legacy of education,
knowledge, assimilation to this country so my people won't suf-
fer as much and to be able to find better jobs. I will continue my
project and keep working to help other organizations here and
in Venezuela.
LTM: What is your comida favorite
Norma Camero Reno: Most Latin food from places like Peru
and Venezuela
LTM: What famous person do you most identify with and why-
Norma Camero Reno: Mother Theresa because everything she
did for humanity was out the goodness of her heart without ex-
pecting anything in return
LTM: What did I miss? Tell me something you want us to know!
Norma Camero Reno: I would like to have my own place so I
could have a school, an information center and a help center for
those who come here with nothing but a bag full of hope so I
can help them fulfill their dreams.
