The Basilica of Santa Croce
Florence,Italy
The basilica of Santa Croce (Holy Cross) in
Florence is not really a cemetery but one of the
biggest churches dedicated to Saint Francis and
one of the most outstanding expressions of
Gothic style in Italy.
Florence's symbol, Santa Croce, was an
important meeting place for personalities that
determined social events, politics and culture
and they contributed to build late-Medieval and
Renaissance Identity.
The basilica keeps many tombs. It is known as
the "Tempio dell'itale glorie", a definition given
by the Romantic Italian poet Ugo Foscolo in the
Carme dei Sepolcri.
