Issue 2 | The Lanzarote Grapevine 2014 The 70kph duel Horse racing on asphalt in Yaiza The event took place on the main street of town and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The full ritual involved preparing the two horses with bandages - warming the animals up in the La Alameda , then a short parade along the main street. The City Council have stated that the speedometer in the ambulance which followed the horses recorded speed of over 70 kilometres per hour, which gives an idea how fast the horses can run. The victory in the 1000 metre duel of the two beautiful english thoroughbred horses was Attract Reason, ridden by jockey Seidan Moreno, beating the mare Cheeki Face and rider Jonatan Fuentes by four or five lengths. Local man, Seidan Moreno (23), has been passionate about horse racing since he began riding in competitions eight years ago.
