me know – only it has to be a song that you’re not heard on the radio in ages! Oh yes and the show is 3 hours and airs at 2pm on Sundays. If you’re on facebook, we also have a group for the show. You’ll find it at www.facebook.com/groups/ MIAshow. ‘Pure Grooves’ is a show I’ve been doing for 5 years and I’ve given it a bit of a face lift and it’s as fresh as a daisy. It’s full of great soul related tunes as well as jazz funk, disco, some anthems, and when the urge strikes me, you’ll get some reggae and smooth jazz as well. One thing you can be sure of though is that the show is full of quality tunes. Yes, you’ll still hear a bit of Motown, also a bit of Northern Soul will be part of the show as well at times. Once again this show is 3 hours long and it airs, Saturdays at 5pm. I think you’re going to enjoy the shows. Have you noticed how nature has this way of balancing things? How every time something good happens, something always seems to offset it? Does this happen to you, or am I the only one that finds this happening to them? Let me give you an example. I’ve not had a holiday for the last five years. Lots of things have gone on in my life that has seemed to hold me back from taking one. I’ve moved twice, and been busy advancing my career as well as developing a new relationship in that time. So we decided it was time to take a break and get away. We knew where we wanted to go, and hunted down somewhere we wanted to stay, sorted plane flights and all that stuff, and then booked it! It was quite a big thing as I’m sure you can imagine. Anyway the next morning I needed to pop to town. I got into the car, turned the key and started it. I looked at the dash and what do you think I saw? 2 words… ARRANGE SERVICE. Great…impeccable timing. So, taking this on board, I figured that it can wait for a bit, no need to spend the money now. Anyway, a couple of nights later, we’re talking about our holiday, and looking at videos of it on youtube, getting all excited, as you do, when I said to Debz, “When do our passports run out?” “I don’t know” she replied, “I’ll get them out and take a look.” You guessed it. My passport runs out in around 6 weeks! And so here’s an expense I can’t push back. In fact, it’s one I need to do straight away. See what I mean about balance? I’ve just passed another birthday, and I don’t know if you’re like me but I always use it as a checkpoint as to how I’ve moved on in the last year. Issue 2 | The Lanzarote Grapevine 2014 I spend a lot of my life on social media and on my birthday this year, I had over 530 people wish me Happy Birthday. The funny thing is that I’ve never met the majority of them. However, most of them have shared my good times, bad times and ongoing run of the mill times. They’ve congratulated me on my achievements, commiserated with me when I’ve had setbacks and some have been good enough to tell me what I needed to hear when I’ve been lacking in drive, self belief and many other traits. In fact, I probably wouldn’t be writing this column had it not been for them. I asked them whether they thought I should do it and I had so many people saying to go for it. Many people tell me that my facebook friends aren’t really friends, but what do you think? Don’t friends do what I’ve spoken about? I have to say, I’ve met people through social media and shared in their special times over the last few years. Just because many haven’t met me in real life yet, surely they can be classed as friends. Indeed, I have made some very close friends from people who I met online and then in real life. I’m a lover of social media and long may it continue. Truth be told, I’m never satisfied with where I am and always feel like I should have moved on further. Till next time, I don’t know whether that makes me a pessimist or not. I’ll see ya! I just think that even if I haven’t achieved what I thought I’d like to have done, I’m always moving that way, and hopefully not going backwards. Have fun, James www.facebook.com/jclmurphy
