In 2014 Cotswold Hill Stone & Masonry took over Birch Hill Quarry, situated deep in the Royal Forest of Dean. This quarry produces Pennant sandstone, renowned for its excellent characteristics of weather resistance and strength. It is sought after by landscape architects and garden designers for water features and rockery projects due to its attractiveness and robust nature. This stone has starred in award-winning displays at both Malvern Spring Show and Chelsea Flower Show where it has been displayed in its natural form, sitting harmoniously with freshly sawn paving. The monumental megalith Pennant sandstone is popular for its striking appearance, weathered over many years and aged with lichen and moss. In contrast the newly dug stone shows its natural charm with strikes of blue, grey and red. The stone extracted from the Cotswold Hill Stone & Masonry quarry is from the Guiting Group of sedimentary limestones and is available in honey and cream colours. It is suitable for many applications including walling, building, and masonry. The building stone has been used in many prestigious locations for both conservation and renovation. Cotswold Hill Stone and Masonry are proud that their work graces such eminent buildings as the Houses of Parliament, Hampton Court Palace, Blenheim Palace, Magdalen Bridge, Oxford colleges and Alexandra Palace. Cotswold Hill Stone & Masonry source and stock stone from other areas to give as wide a choice to their customers as possible. Experienced stonemasons are available to assist with any ideas customers may already have or help with the interpretation of architect’s drawings. www.stonequarries.co.uk 26 Landscape & Urban Design
