PHOTO ESSAY BARNES WALKER L HOUSE IN THE PEAKS Barnes Walker were commissioned to produce a new garden layout for a property in the foothills of the Peak District. Whilst the house was to undergo major renovations, so too was the garden. 42 Landscape Insight | December 2017 ocated on a hillside, the project had many constraints, including access issues, yet these constraints were transformed into opportunities. Our client wanted to optimise the areas of usable garden space, maximise areas of lawn, create a substantial terrace to take advantage of the amazing views, form a walled kitchen garden and improve the woodland. In order to fulfil the brief and gain planning permission, Barnes Walker prepared a comprehensive drawing package to gain the necessary permissions and attain prices. Major level changes and retaining structures were introduced in order to optimise the space. Local stone was used to fill gabions and face retaining walls. The landscape framework was softened with cottage style planting which would stand up to the exposed conditions. Project Cost: £150,001 - £200,000 Country: United Kingdom
