PREPARATION IS KEY Preparing the area is the most important part of installing artificial grass – if the groundwork isn’t prepared how it should be, you can stumble across problems in the future. Artificial grass can be installed on a number of different surfaces which will determine how much groundwork is needed. If you are replacing existing turf, the first job is to dig off and remove the old to a depth of 40mm. Once this has been done, spread a layer of sharp sand over the area to a depth of 35mm – it’s essential to pay extra attention to this stage in order to remove any dips and hollows and re-compacting the sand numerous times if necessary.
