NOTES
FROM THE
EDITOR
PLUS ÇA CHANGE, PLUS C’EST LA MÊME CHOSE
was very nearly the quote on the table of contents.
‘The more things change, the more they stay the
same’ is a quintessentially French phrase that
delicately straddles the line between hopeful
reassurance and jaded resignation in the face of
evolution, and it’s one that I’ve often had occasion
to say to myself over the past 15 years. The
nature of communication and journalism is
changing; and, by default, so will every industry
that seeks to express itself by words and pictures.
Landscape Architecture New Zealand has become
Landscape Architecture Aotearoa. Pages have given
way to page views; paper is replaced by pixels.
And that’s not a bad thing. What stays the same is
our celebration of the landscape (itself, of course,
an ever-evolving proposition) and our continued
commitment to the vibrant field of endeavour of
which we are all a part.
In following pages, you’ll see familiar features and
names presented in an updated format. As time
goes on, we’ll continue to explore and evolve,
adding the bits of technology that will make
Landscape Architecture Aotearoa a more robust and
informative (and fun?) reading experience.
For now, though, welcome to our first issue. I
look forward to your comments and contributions
(just click my name below to send an email) and as
ever, thank you for your on-going support of the
publication.
