SPRING 2016
Taungurung people, treated us
to an extraordinary presentation
which focussed on the Birrarung
Wilam Commemorative Place, part
of a walkway which connects the
downtown Melbourne CBD with
Melbourne’s sports and entertainment hub which includes the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In their
work they had collaborated with
other artists and created a superb
large scale installation commemorating campfire sites beside the
Birrarung (Yarra) River.
My own presentation on behalf of Te Tau-a-Nuku (the Māori
Landscape Architect’s Rōpu )
followed in which I provided some
insight into how we, in collaboration with the NZILA, have gone
about advocating in relation to
Maori Cultural Landscape in
Aotearoa - New Zealand.
Jefa Greenaway, an awardwinning Aboriginal Architect and
Interior Designer, Director of
Greenaway Architects and Chair of
IADV, provided further examples
of the use of traditional elements
and narratives in his work. Together with Reuben Berg, he has
put together an impressive body
of work and they are now concentrating their efforts on advocacy
and increasing awareness and
opportunities for others practising
