CONTEMPORARY ART REVIEW

Giorgio Cole

Lives and works in Niagara Falls , Ontario , Canada

A t this current stage in my career , my artwork looks to evoke the imagination and to carry its viewers on a voyage to destinations dating as far back as four thousand years ago . From the gods and goddesses of Ancient Egypt , to the witches of Early Modern Europe ; mythology , folk tales , legends , ghostlore , and cryptic bedside tales transmitted from generation to generation , is what sanctions my desire to create and give chronicle .

How can one simply not be profoundly fascinated and autogenously evoked with the seemingly pure abstraction of legend and mysticism ? Whether it be a devout atheist or a dedicated spiritual being , I believe that we all at some point in our lives question our own faith . Not necessarily speaking of simply religion but faith as a means of essential . In saying so my current work positively attempts to query just that , as an entirety ? Do we believe ? Do we want to believe ? Are we too scared to admit we believe and can one truly believe to the fullest extent of his rationalistic self ? Do we doubt because we are too afraid of the truth ? Do we truly believe in ourselves as individuals and have full confidence in our abilities ? Do we believe plainly out of fear or pure loyalty ?
Ultimately In saying so , it is a goal that is truly close to my heart to bring amongst its viewers ; through the artwork itself a message of hope , faith ; not necessarily in a particular but amongst ourselves to say the least . Believe in yourself and have faith in yourself with whatever you do in life . Look at the artwork and simply acknowledge the fact that everyone has their very own point of view , this is a given right . This is our natural given freedom to distinguish ourselves what we believe in and what we doubt . However for my own sake , embrace the mutuality that comes with faith ; but ultimately respect the distinguishment and alternate views which it poses . If we all learned to do this the world would be a much better place . Enjoy the legends , embrace the ancient folklore , and re-tell mother earths stories that have been told from generation to generation , even if you don ’ t fully comprehend or believe in it . Be free with your own faith and love all others around you with even completely different views on life as a whole . This is the art in diversity … this is in my most humble opinion one of the greatest gifts bestowed upon humanity .
Generally distinguished as an artist of alteration , by means of medium usages , subject matters and styles ; presently it is in my most recent body of work in which I look to maintain a harmonious balance within the watercolour medium . My palette tends to commonly include alterations such as Indian and Chinese inks , to simply reflect upon the various cultural interpretations and vividity of its legends . This ancient muse , whom my work attempts to proclaim , speaks of my very early childhood fascination for the unknown and in search of a higher awareness . Whether fact or fiction ? It is my sincere intention to produce antiquated contextual paintings , while portraying an artistic adventure filled with emotions and familiarity .
Every piece tells an ancient tale . Let your imagination lead the way ...
