through a shrinking proces . Varnish or lacker which you put on thick will shrink . I also use the layer underneath to stimulate the shrinking proces . If the layer underneath is not dried out completely it will react on the paint you put on it . Like I said i use a lot of different paints . Oil paint , in my opinion , is very nice to use thick . It will show all the little color nuances in a brushstroke and stays like you put it on . I sometimes use that for my final layer to add some more texture and depth . Colors I choose very intuitively , I don ’ t have to think about it that much anymore , it comes very natural . In the early days I was very much obsessed by getting the right colors , now I just get them . They appear . It also has got to do with the layers . I start very bright and layer by layer I choose different colors or brightness .
You draw a lot from natural and urban environment and the landscapes that you paint never play the mere role of backgrounds : how would you define the relationship between environment and your work ?
I choose not to use people in my work as a subject . The environment becomes the main theme . By not showing people in my paintings you don ’ t get a feeling of measurement . My paintings are physical small , but give you the feeling of beeing immense . The viewer is the main character in a huge universe which
