raditional value and culture are the ever lasting sources of inspiration . The great endeavor our forebears being made to let the unique cultures be formed should be treasured for the aesthetic standards and the efficacious rules of creation are discovered and evolved during the course of evolution . Actually it is the traditions that have nourished and developed the contemporary arts and it is not wise to blind to the wisdom of our ancestors . Therefore I had laid the groundwork for a good command of traditional painting which is the prerequisite skills required of an artist .
However , I am not just follow the steps of tradition . I synthesize traditional painting and Western art as an attempt to mordernise Chinese paintings . Chinese painting is fundamentally a linear art . Thus , the dexterous manipulation of the brushwork for precise expression is an essential prerequisite . Being a contemporary painter , though the vital tradition being the underlying theme , would adopt an approach in a more structural form ; the emphasis of spatial position , visible shape of content are placed in a painting . Sometimes , random jabs , slashes , semi-effaced marks , combining with the illusion of space which is created by the use of subdued color tones , all together constituted a new and uniquely personal style .
I am receptive to what the art of the past could teach me , but I never directly incorporate specific elements from works by them . The drawing paper is a battlefield for old method and new attempt , traditional values and personal ideas . Although it is painstaking to go through the conflict of putting new thoughts in the already formed style , I still love to experiment , to pursue that single , absorbing , exquisite gratification .
