and the intimate and personal connection the individual feels when immersed in it .
I created an installation with printed fabric and a projection of one of my video works , “ 4.13.14 ”. The video had ambient noise that allows the viewer to fill in the blanks and draw from their memory . The video does not show a specific or clear location . The video is of water , which flows into the fabric , allowing the two mediums to mesh together and to allow the viewer to , metaphorically , get lost in the space in-between . In this installation I also displayed one of my books titled “ WAVES ”, which is an accordion-fold with the same image that was printed on the exhibited fabric . “ WAVES ” is over 6 feet long when opened . It is intentionally unmanageable in size , causing the viewer to be unable to open this book completely without assistance from another person . Creative processes are too often distant and exclusive – disconnected from direct experience . In having viewers participate , forcing connections between two viewers , they become and intimate part of the work itself .
