6 Notices Guards of the month It is with great pleasure that the security committee of the LVHOA have rewarded Sizikhaya Makhu (top) with the guard of the month for February 2018. It is with great pleasure that the security com- mittee of the LVHOA have rewarded Thabede Melusi (bottom) with the guard of the month for March 2018. We all thank you for your hard work and dedication in keeping Lakeside and our residents safe. Potted history of the Modderfontein Factory Modderfontein (muddy spring) Factory was responsible for the birth of the explosives and chemicals industry in South Africa – an industry that has made a substantial contribution to the economy of not only the local community, but to that of the country as a whole. As such it has been an integral part of the coun- try’s history. Modderfontein Factory was established as a manufacturer of dyna- mite specifically to supply the burgeoning gold mining industry. It was designed as the largest commercial explosives factory in the world, a distinction it enjoyed up until the mid 1990s. Fill in the gaps between then and now by paying a visit to The Dyna- mite Company Museum at No 2 Main Street, Modderfontein (next door but one from 33 High Street Restaurant). The museum is open from Tues- day to Thursday: 8:30am-3:30pm, Friday: 8:30am-2pm and Saturday: 8:30-12:30pm. Groups are welcome by prior arrangement. Call the cura-
