Lake Forest Sailing is one of the best sailing programs in the country and a phenomenal city resource . We have programs for 5 year olds and up . Whether you want to learn to sail for fun or become a college all-American or Olympian ( as past participants have done ), we have the programs and ability to help you .

Sailing is a lifelong sport the entire family can enjoy . When a young person gains control of their own vessel in the waters of Lake Michigan , they gain an exciting confidence that will only grow . All of our instructors are U . S . Sailing certified and trained in safety and instruction . Please bring a life jacket , sunscreen , water and close-toed water shoes to sailing camp .

OUR INSTRUCTORS

Scott Norman spent his youth competitively sailing in Iowa and Florida . He began instructing in 1993 while he was Team Captain for the University of South Florida . Scott serves as Director of Coaching and Head Coach for the U . S . Optimist National Team and Development Team . He helped create the U . S . National Team in 1995 and has been a driving force of the U . S . Optimist Team ’ s success ever since . Scott is excited for the 2018 summer programs !

Will Howard grew up learning to sail in the LFHS programs . He went on to race Optis , Lasers and , 420s around the country . During high school , Will competed in over ten national championships . He sailed on the U . S . Coast Guard Academy sailing team and continues to race J70s and Melges 24s . Sharing the lessons he has learned with the youth of the Lake Forest Community is Will ' s passion and he is excited for a great summer of 2018 .

SKIPPER & SQUIRT ( 5-7Y ) Come experience quality family time on Lake Michigan with your 5-7 year old . Mothers , fathers , grandparents or siblings will sail a two-person dinghy with their child while learning the basics of sailing . If you child wants more , check out Little Luffers , where they will sail on their own !

LITTLE LUFFERS ( 5-7Y ) Little Luffers is all about gaining an affinity and confidence for being on the water . There are usually two sailors in each pram , giving them a chance to meet new friends and share the fun ! Sailors in this program focus on how much fun sailing can be and develop a good base for Pram 1 .
