From the Park Bench Fall Fun! Fall Season is upon us and there is an abundance of activities, projects, programs, events and fun to be had throughout our community sponsored by the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department and our Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation. Your family will find everything from our regular programming to The Lake Forest Library Book Sale to Deerpath Golf Course Glow Ball to the Halloween Tricks and Treats party for the young ones and the Haunted Trail for those ages 12+ and on to the Stirling Hall Art Bash and Claus’ Coach. Lake Forest Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department is hosting an event or program for every interest and age group. Sally Swarthout Director of Parks, Recreation, & Forestry This past spring, The City of Lake Forest was awarded an OSLAD Grant to supplement City funding for improvements at South Park. These improvements include two tennis/pickle ball courts, a basketball court, fitness stations, a bocce court, walking path and batting cages. Work is beginning with an anticipated completion of spring 2020. Also underway are the improvements to our newly named Veterans Park located at the corner of Deerpath and Greenbay Roads. Plans for this park include a Veterans Memorial, woodland path, outdoor musical instruments and an upgraded entrance and landscape plan. GO Lake Forest in collaboration with GO Lake County is an initiative to improve the health of Lake County Residents by promoting the simple act of walking. The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will be hosting three events this fall. Lake Forest College Walk & Tour, Cemetery Walk & Tour, and a Forest Park Nature Walk. Bring your family and walk with us! Details can be found on page 7 of this brochure. The Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation supports your parks and recreation programs and services through fundraising events hosted throughout the year. To start the fall season off, Oktoberfest is back but has been newly named Fall Festival. This family friendly event will take place September 21st from 3:00 - 10:00 pm in the parking lot behind City Hall. It will include music from great local bands, food and beverages, children’s activities, a bounce house and much more. The Friends also sponsor the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Dinner with Santa. See page 54 for all of the Friend’s fall activities. Clear blue skies, crunching leaves, and crisp air are a terrific background for our programs, special events and community activities. Join your Parks, Recreation and Forestry team and the Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation as we celebrate fall with our cornucopia of offerings for every age.
