Lake Forest on the Go!
Fall Season is upon us and there is a cornucopia of programs, events and opportunities
to celebrate and support recreation in the City of Lake Forest!
Fall activities abound from our regular programming to the Lake Forest Library Book
Sale to the Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation Oktoberfest to
the Halloween Tricks and Treats party and on to Dinner with Santa. Lake Forest Parks,
Recreation, and Forestry Department is hosting an event or program for every interest
and age group.
This past spring, The City of Lake Forest was awarded the Partner Agency of the Year
Sally Swarthout
Award by the North Suburban Special Recreation Association for the close collaboration
Director of Parks,
to provide excellent inclusive programing. Staff and Park and Recreation Board members
Recreation, & Forestry
were on hand to accept the award. Please see page 72 for more information about the
programming that the City is doing in collaboration with NSSRA, GLASA, the Judd Goldman Foundation, and
with our own experienced staff to provide recreational opportunities to participants of all abilities.
The Recreation Center building turns 40 this year! On page 9, you will find a brief summary timeline of the
history of the Recreation Building at 400 Hastings Road. It has been witness to many wonderful programs,
events and family made recreational memories throughout the years.
As we move forward and begin to “Chart Our Future,” the Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation
Foundation in partnership with the City of Lake Forest has begun a ten year Comprehensive Park Master Plan.
The process began with a resident survey, stakeholder meetings, and workshops with the Park and Recreation
Board to determine where we succeed, what we may be missing, and areas that may need additional attention
and support. This plan will give the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department and The Friends of Lake Forest
Parks and Recreation Foundation the direction needed to plan for future projects and fundraising opportunities.
