40 YEARS EST 1 9 7 8 Our Recreation Center Building on Hastings Road is celebrating 40 years! Although Lake Forest Parks and Recreation was founded in the 1950’s, ground was broken on our current building in 1978 and work was completed in 1979. Take a look at how far we have come over the past 40 years! A Rich History 1978 Residents voted to build a new Recreation Center (won by just 180 votes!). 1979 The new Recreation Center was dedicated on December 2nd. 1987 An addition was built to house dance studios, racquetball courts and CROYA. Our Recreation Center Building is Turning 40! CELE B RAT ING 1998 Another addition for was built for the fitness center, additional dance studios, locker rooms, the diner, as well as lighted athletic fields. 2000 Friends of Lake Forest Parks & Recreation Foundation created to fundraise for department needs. 2005 Recreation Department wins National Park and Recreation Gold Medal Award. 2008 Deerpath Preschool Playground (fully accessible) opened after its removal due to CROYA expansion. Diner at Recreation Center remodeled into Youth Game Room. 2018 The Recreation Center continues to provide wonderful programs such as Kinderhaven, Dance, Athletics, and much, much more! Looking Forward As we look to the next 40 years and beyond, we are excited about the many opportunities to welcome the public to our beautiful parks and updated amenities.
