W Events FAMILY FUN CAMP OUT (ALL AGES) SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 1 Bring the family down to Forest Park Beach for a night of camping. Pitch a tent and get ready for an evening of family fun! The Wildlife Discovery Staff will host a reptile show and local astronomers will teach participants how to use telescopes (provided) to observe the night sky. Try your hand at metal detecting, watch a movie in the pavilion, or just enjoy the campfire. Saturday night and Sunday morning meals will be catered by the popular Chef Steve Chiappetti from Purely Simple Kitchen. This is the only night of the year that camping is allowed on the Lake Forest Beach so, don’t miss out on this unique family bonding experience! A portion of the proceeds from this WDC fundraiser help support crocodile conservation projects worldwide. Knowledgeable members of the Chicago Herpetological Society will give short talks about crocodiles and their kin, including some of our very own residents. Jim Nesci and his world-famous American alligator, ‘Bubba,’ will pay a visit from 10 – 12. Come see the skull of a 24-foot saltwater crocodile, today’s largest living terrestrial predator! There’ll be face painting, storytelling, and other activities for children, craft vendors and other fun for the whole family! Your $10 donation per participant will be greatly appreciated and payable at the door.
