Online Shopping Identity Theft Prevention
Find the perfect gift, and stay safe!
Now-a-days, more online shopping is done through smart
phones and tablets. While the convenience is nice, it can
also leave shoppers open to identity theft. Here are some
helpful tips to keep you and your family safe this holiday
season.
1. D
on’t provide payment through an
unsecured connection:
Tip: When making a payment online, make sure you
are using a secure connection that ensures identity
protection. Reputable online merchants will direct you
to a secure or encrypted webpage when you are ready
to check out so that only you and the merchant can view
your credit card information.
To ensure that an online merchant has a secure connection, look for the image of a lock in your browser window, an
address that starts with "https" (instead of just http), the wording "Secure Sockets Layer" (SSL), or a pop-up box that
says you are entering a secure portion of the website.
