What qualifications do I need?
Students wishing to study Psychology at this level need to show they can develop the analytical skills
required. As they may not have studied the subject before, grades ‘C’ and above at GCSE in Science,
Mathematics and English Language are recommended.
Assessment
Examinations are 1 hour 30 for AS examinations and 2 hours for A2 examinations.
There are 2 written examinations at AS level and 3 at A-Level. There is no course work component.
We deliver AQA specification.
General Comments
Psychology is a vast and interesting subject. Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of animal
and human behaviour and mental processes.” Psychology is one of the most popular subjects
studied at AS and A2 level at Lady Lumley’s. There are currently 3 groups in Y12 and 2 groups in
Y13.
Future Prospects
Psychology is an academic subject and progression is from A2 to degree level. Successful candidates
can go onto a wide-range of courses, such as Psychology/Clinical Psychology, Teaching,
Management, Marketing, Public Relationships, Health/Social Work, Sport & Exercise/Coaching
Science, and Tourism.
