Responses in 2016 included the following: •  161 Wildfires (including the Fort McMurray and the Mayerthorpe Trestle Fire) •  28 Structure Fires •  11 Vehicle Fires •  111 Motor Vehicle Collisions •  20 Hazardous Materials Related Responses •  118 Medical First Responses •  10 Stars Landing Zones •  71 False Alarms •  5 Utilities Emergencies (involving power lines) GROWTH According to the 2016 census, the County is growing. Population has grown more than 6% from the previous census. With the economy expected to rebound in 2017, it’s safe to assume continued growth in many areas of the County. This growth means that Fire Services must adapt to continue to serve its citizens to the level of service in place, and the County must ensure its Fire Services department can support its core strength: the members. In February of 2016, our Day-time Casual Program was launched to supplement response gaps during the day, primarily at our busiest Fire Station — Ste. Anne East Station. In June of 2016, we added Station 5 and 7 to this program, and these people became known as our Central Casuals. In April of 2016, the second full-time position in the Fire Services department was approved to support Operations and Training. Deputy Fire Chief Dufort was immediately thrust into action on his first day. In June of 2016, County Council approved Medical First Response into our Level of Service.
