boards within the applicable jurisdictions . The County supports all six libraries through a per capita allocation , and provides an option for additional funding through the Library Grant Program .
MONTH OF MARCH Introduced by CRA , the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program enables eligible applicants to have their income tax returns prepared at no charge by volunteers . In 2016 , the Community Services department completed roughly 75 returns at no cost to local seniors and low income clients . This was the fifth year of our involvement with this initiative . We are also available by appointment to assist with the completion of forms , should residents require assistance with that task .
MONTH OF APRIL Spring saw the start of another successful season for the Lac Ste . Anne Minor Softball League . Each community involved in the 2016 season
managed the registration process for their given communities , but Community Services facilitated player insurance through Softball Alberta , and assisted with administrative tasks required for such a league . This League provided a low-cost recreational activity for 370 players on 30 teams in 2016 — numbers that we aim to exceed in 2017 ! Thank you to the numerous volunteers ( coaches , parents , scorekeepers , community reps , league commissioner and umpires ), who have made this level of sport possible in our communities !
MONTH OF MAY May 1 was the first day for reservations at both the Lessard Lake and Paddle River Dam Campgrounds , and by the end of the first day most sites were booked for the May long weekend ! We continue to see increased usage at both these campgrounds , plus the Sangudo Riverside Campground , as campers near and far discover what the County has
to offer . Plans are in place to continue development of these facilities , with additional loops in the works for both Lessard and Paddle River .
MONTH OF JUNE June 8 , 2016 was an important date : it was when the County hosted its annual Seniors ’ Tea at our Outdoor Education Centre , within the Lessard Lake Public Campground , to celebrate our local seniors . Guests were treated to a delicious lunch complete with cake and refreshments , followed by informative presentations and speeches . They were then treated to an amazing choral speaking by students from Elmer Elson Elementary School , and a musical presentation by a local band . Transportation was provided for those who couldn ’ t make the drive , and the event was thoroughly enjoyed by the roughly 50 seniors in attendance , and by the Community Services staff who had the honour of hosting .
