4.1.2 Malaysian Employees: Wages and Benefits
4.1.2.1 Basic Monthly Wage
Overall, slightly more than half of all full-time Malaysian employees had an average basic monthly
wage of less than RM2,000. Full-time male employees earned on average 23% more than female
employees, while part-time male employees earned 40% more than females. Differences in the
basic wage of males and females are dependent on several factors including the type of jobs
performed.

Full-time employees in the skilled job categories (managers, professionals, technicians and
associate professionals) earned an average basic monthly wage of between RM3,000 – RM8,500.
Average basic wage for those in the semi-skilled and low-skilled jobs ranged from RM1,200 –
RM2,000.
Male employees had higher average basic wage than female employees across all the job
categories, except for clerical support workers. Full-time male managers, professionals and
associate professionals earned around 25% higher than their female counterparts. Among the
part-time employees, basic wage of male managers was about 60% higher than females.
