3.3.5 Bonus Payment
Two-third of establishments paid out bonus in 2015 to their full-time Malaysian employees, with
an average of payment of RM6,600 per employee per annum. Across the job categories,
managers received significantly higher amount of bonus in 2015 (average of RM25,000) followed
by professionals at RM8,500. Establishments in the financial industry paid out the highest amount
of bonus at RM20,000 per employee on average. In terms of establishment size, those working
in large establishments received about 30% more in bonus payment compared to those in small
and medium establishments.
Among the establishments with non-Malaysian employees, 55% paid bonus to expatriate / PR
employees and 48% paid to foreign workers. Expatriate / PR employees received an average
annual bonus of around RM11,000 in 2015, with those working in wholesale and retail trade, as
well as administration and support services receiving significantly higher bonus compared to
other industries. On the other hand, the foreign workers received an average bonus of RM560.
