In terms of average working hours based on 5-day work week, full-time Malaysian employees and expatriate / PR employees worked an average of 8.6 hours per day (not including OT). Foreign workers clocked in longer hours, with an average of 9.3 normal hours and 2.9 OT hours per day. Overall, foreign workers worked about 5-7 hours more per week compared to Malaysians and expatriates / PR (including OT hours). Figure 3-9: Average normal working hours and paid OT hours Malaysian employees in the agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining and quarrying industries had the highest normal working hours at 46 hours per week, which is equivalent to 9.2 hours per day. For expatriate / PR employees, those who are in the mining and quarrying industry worked an average of 70 normal hours per week, the highest compared to all other industries. Among the foreign workers, administrative and support services industry registered the highest normal hours at an average of 84 hours per week, mainly due to establishments in the professional security services. On average per day, 8% of Malaysian employees (based on total 54,660 employees), 9% of the expatriates/PR (based on total 635 employees) and 44% of the foreign workers (based on total 4,358 workers) worked paid overtime hours.
