Among full-time Malaysian employees, 28% of them were in the skilled job categories (MASCO
1-3), while 20% were in elementary occupations. Close to one-third were clerical support
workers. 13% of all full-time Malaysian employees worked in the manufacturing sector.
Meanwhile, 75% of the expatriate / PR employees covered in this analysis worked as managers
and professionals. Most of these employees were from the education and manufacturing sectors.
As for foreign workers, 80% of them were plant and machine operators / assemblers and
elementary workers. Half of these foreign workers were in the manufacturing industry and close
to 30% worked in the agriculture, forestry and fishing industry.

Geographically, about half of all full-time employees in this survey were based in the Central
region, while the majority of the remaining employees were in the Northern region and East
Malaysia. The Southern region had the highest proportion of foreign workers i.e. 26% of all full-
time employees in this region. The proportion of foreign workers in the other regions ranged
from 3% to 11%.
