SOUTHWEST ITALIAN
CHRISTMAS PARTY SLATED FOR SOLON
COMMUNITY CENTER, DECEMBER 1st
The Annual Solon Italian Club Christmas Party will be held at the Solon Community Center on Sunday, December 1st from 3-6 pm. Children and Grandchildren
of members who are current with dues are invited to attend and participate.
Gifts, torrone and oranges will be presented by Santa to children, 10 and under.
A special visit is planned again by La Befana. "This has become a treasured Club tradition," says event chairman Al Giammaria. "We strive
to preserve our Italian heritage and believe the legend of La Befana
is an excellent one to share with our young people," says Giammaria.
The Club will also collect food, toiletries, personal care products and recreational goods to send to our troops overseas. Among other things, the soldiers request: toothpaste, toothbrushes, socks, deodorant, dental floss,
cotton balls, disposable hand and feet warmers, toilet paper, razors, hair gel,
shampoo, soap, chap stick, wet wipes, foil packets of chicken, dried fruit,
energy bars, snack cakes, hot chocolate, candy, beef jerky, playing cards, batteries, puzzle books, and blank greeting cards (to send notes back home).
The children attending the Christmas Party will, again, write letters and
create hand-made cards to send with the packages to the troops. Members of the
Italian Club of Solon High School will be on hand at this year’s event to help.

"November Meeting Speaker"
At the November 5, 2013 monthly our guest speaker was Scott H. Longert, author
of the book “The Best They Could Be” a historical review of the Cleveland Indians and
how they became the Kings of baseball from 1916 thru 1920 and covers the players
as World War I loomed as well as details on how baseball was evolving. The book
was published by Potomac Books, Inc.
Mr. Longert had books for sale and autographed every copy sold. It was a very informative evening and hopefully the Indians
can make that World Series Championship dream come true again this coming year.
