Welcome
La Tunisie est, par sa superficie, le plus
petit pays du Maghreb et sans doute le plus
attachant. Terre de rencontre et carrefour
des civilisations, l’histoire de la Tunisie est
plusieurs fois millénaire.
Lying in the furthest north of the African
continent, Tunisia, considered as the smallest
Maghreb country in terms of size, is definitely
the most attractive one. A land of gathering
and a crossroads of civilizations.

Voici quelques grandes dates :
• Fondation de Carthage par Didon en 850
av. JC. La cité grandit et prospère au point
d’inquiéter la toute puissante Rome.
• Au bout de la troisième guerre punique,
Carthage est détruite en 146 av. JC par les
Romains.
• Geiséric, tristement célèbre chef Vandale,
attaque Carthage en 439. L’ancienne cité
d’Hannibal, sans défense, est vaincue et
envahie par un peuple de 80 000 âmes.
• Arrivée des Arabes. Oqba ibn Nafaâ fonde
la ville de Kairouan en 670. Il faudra attendre
le IXe siècle pour voir l’achèvement de
l’islamisation.
• Succession des dynasties arabes à
compter de l’an 800 : Aghlabides, Fatimides
puis Zirides (berbères) jusqu’à l’arrivée des
Normands. Ces derniers seront chassés en
1160 par le calife Almohade du Maroc.

attacked Carthage in the year 439. The former
stronghold of Hannibal, now helpless, was
defeated and invaded by a group of 80 000 men.
