Kaddour Srarfi was born in
a family of musicians : his
brother Mohamed, chef of the
brass band of La Naceuria and
Tahar, pianist virtuoso and
violonist, have transmitted the
passion of music to him.
His debut
In 1928, Kaddour Srarfi enrols in El attarine School
and studies the music theory, the mouachah, the
samaï and the bachrafs with Ali Derwich el halabi.
Passionately fond of the violin, he chooses the
Italian professor Raphaël Strino, conductor of the
casino, with whom he studied the instrument for
seven years. then he joins the harmony, contrepoint
and composition classes of the professor Louis
Gava and finishes his studies with André Haydou’s
orchestration course.
Kaddour Srarfi enters La Rachidia, Tunisian music
flagship institution, and teaches in an academic
way. Then, he takes the opportunity of cheikh
Mohamed Ghanem’s presence to expand his
knowledge of the Andalusian mouachahs and the
rebec. He takes part in the concerts of the La
Rachidia orchestra and, in 1940, is chosen by the
school’s headmaster to give the violin classes and
conduct the institution’s orchestra.
In 1944, upon Ali Riahi’s request, he conducts the
latter’s orchestra.
Violin virtuoso, composer and creative artist,
Kaddour Srarfi becomes the darling of all performers
and a star in Tunisia, in the Maghreb and in the
whole Arab world. He conducts the orchestras of
Hédi Jouini, Chafia Rochdi, Hassiba Rochdi and
many others.
