Picasso céramiste et la Méditerranée
Cité de la Céramique, Sèvres

du 20 novembre 2013 au 19 mai 2014
150 œuvres en céramique façonnées par Picasso sont exposées à la Cité de la céramique de Sèvres. Mondialement célèbre pour ses peintures cubistes, les sculptures en céramique de Picasso sont bien moins connues
du grand public. Pourtant l’artiste s’adonne à cette passion tout au long des années 50, constituant ainsi une
collection de 2 880 pièces.
Ces céramiques mettent en relief le lien très fort entre Picasso et la Méditerranée, consolidé par son intérêt
pour l’Antiquité. Se dégage ainsi un univers propre à l’artiste où se côtoient femmes, faunes, corridas et bacchanales dans une atmosphère joyeuse et délirante. I Picasso ceramist and the Mediterranean
150 works of ceramic shaped by Picasso are exposed from November 20th 2013 to May 19th 2014 at the Cité de
la céramique de Sèvres.Globally renowned for his Cubist paintings, Picasso’s ceramic sculptures are much less
known by the general public. However, the artist devotes himself to this passion throughout the fifties, thus
building a collection of 2 880 pieces.
These ceramics highlight the very strong bond between Picasso and the Mediterranean Sea, strenghtened by
his interest for Antiquity. The artist’s universe therefore emerges, where women, wildlife, bullfights and bacchanales mingle in a joyful and frenzied atmosphere. I
