A week-end at
the flea market
On Saturdays and Sundays,
people living in Brussels as
well as streams of tourists go
to the Marolles in order to look
for treasures at the Place du
Jeu de Balle and in the vintage
boutiques of Haute and Blaes
parallel streets. The choice is
colossal and there is no shortage
of bargains, since prices remain
reasonable.
Our favorite addresses :

from 1950 to 1980)
203 Haute Street

Between the classics of the
Belgian tradition and the new
trends of contemporary cooking,
its young chef continues
to amaze. Basic products,
surprising side dishes and
roasted scampis are worthy of a
gourmet.

Belgian Arne Quinze, who created
and installed an impressive resin
sculpture with winding forms,
spreading along the entire room’s
lenght. Under the archways of the
building, which was built for the
1958 Universal Exhibition, we can
try the incredible recipes of an
elaborate menu based on unique
products selected by two Parisian
institutions : the Caviar Kaspia
and the “Maison de la Truffe”.

The clients of tis respectable
institution (opened in 1921 but
redecorated since…) are joyful
families of the neighborhood,
impeccably dressed politicians,
RTBF top presenters, crazy
artists (starting with the singer
Arno). The atmosphere is warm
around generous plates of shrimp
cakes or “sole meunière”.
