The City of Culture opens its doors .
Set out on a journey with lingering setbacks and impediments , Tunisian capital will finally celebrate the opening of its City of Culture on 28 February 2018 . It is a major project that is unveiled to the public . Located in the heart of the capital , on Avenue Mohamed V , the City of Culture hosts many spaces dedicated to different art centres . Construction that saw the light thirteen years ago under the initiative of Ben Ali government , for an amount of 120 million Dinars ( the equivalent of 40 million Euros ), was suspended , in the aftermath of the revolution , to be finally restarted in 2016 , under the leadership of the Minister of Culture , Sonia Mbarek . Stretched on a 49,000 m ² surface , the building includes two cinemas , a theatre , an 1800-seat opera house , an auditorium , a digital library , seven music production studios , the Artist and theatre House , as well as several shopping centres .
