In Colossians 3:1-4 we read, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ, in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” Notice how Paul states his observation. Not in words of “if” or “maybe.” He doesn’t offer this experience as an unlikely possibility of a hoped-for dream. Instead he declares it as a great reality- a stated truth - for the follower of Christ. In referring to the death and resurrection symbolism associated with baptism, Paul tells us that we ARE dead to the old life, and raised with Christ to the new. Because of that fact, our lives are lifted heavenward. No longer living for planet earth, we now live for heaven. Notice the past-tense declaration of our re-birth, and its present tense results: we HAVE been raised with Christ, and therefore we ARE hidden with Christ in God. That’s good news! But it gets even better! The words that conclude Paul’s thoughts in verse 4 are also stated as an absolute promise. We who are hidden in Jesus, can be assured, that “when He appears, we will also appear with Him in glory!”  What an amazing gift for those who are hidden in Him! In the childhood game of hide and seek, the best moment came when I would race home and shout “I’m free.” Paul’s words remin d me, that very soon, we will shout and sing those words together with the redeemed of all the ages, safely home with Christ, forever free at last.
