Youthreach Athy
Learners from Youthreach Athy completed a Certificate
from the Irish Heart Foundation in Heart Saver AED/CPR.
Part of the training involved a fully operational Ambulance
arriving at the centre to educate the learners on a real life
or death situation. The learners were exposed to equipment
and detailed information on procedures in the case of an
emergency.
Wicklow Further Education and Training Awards Nights
Wicklow Further Education Centre held its annual
awards night where more than 22 students from
Wicklow Youthreach were presented with QQI full
awards and component certificates at Levels 4 & 5 by
Education Development Officer Angela Higgins.
The students studied a wide range of subjects
including Human Biology; Maths; Art; Work
Experience and Health Related Fitness. Angela
congratulated the students in completing their
awards and excelling in their portfolios. Many of the students have gone on to use their
qualifications in attaining employment and accessing higher education.

Employability Skills QQI Award
(Major) Level 3 - Further Education
and Training

The Introduction to Construction course started in
the Further and Education Training Centre in Athy
town on the 13th January 2015. Eighteen students
are enrolled on the course and will complete
modules at level 3 and level 4 of the National
Framework of Qualifications. The course will run
three days a week for 25 weeks. The purpose
of the course is to equip the learner with the
knowledge, competence and expertise to develop
a range of construction skills under supervision. The course
is suitable for those who may be considering a career in the
construction profession or who wish to obtain a qualification
to build on prior learning experience. The course will focus
on the practical and theoretical aspects of construction with
literacy, computers and guidance support underpinning
various elements of the course.
