News from around the Schools & Centres
KWETB
Coláiste Bhríde
For over a decade, Coláiste Bhride has engaged in a
myriad of Development Education initiatives which have
acted as a catalyst in our school community helping
us realise our own social and moral purpose and
identifying our school’s position within a global context.
Engagements include volunteering, debating, Young
Social Innovators, Science for Development projects,
partnership with NUI Maynooth, Work Experience
Placements, establishing school networks and travelling
on schools visits to countries in Sub Saharan Africa.
Our most recent initiative concerns the establishment of
the ITSSN- The Ireland and Tanzania Schools Network
supported by Irish Aid WorldWise Global Schools.
We have recently had the pleasure of two of our
colleagues from Suye Secondary School in Arusha and
Tanga Technical School in Tanga visiting us in Ireland
from 6-16th January of this year. Madam Sarah Milunga
and Nelson Makundi engaged with our Climate Justice
Schools Programme training whilst visiting our schools
and both are indeed very committed to the programme.
Having already made our application to become a ‘Dev
Ed School’, we are confident that WorldWise Global
Schools will grant us our ‘global passport’ whilst in tandem
attaining our 6th Green flag for Global Citizenship in
Coláiste Bhríde in 2015.
ABE West Wicklow
The ABE students of West Wicklow recently
spent a day with Dr Phil Robert who facilitated a
very informative and thought provoking session
on how to value ourselves more. The day was a
mixture of learning and fun using humour, drama
and music. The students were so taken with
Phil and her down to earth approach that we
brought her back for another morning. In all Phil
met with 40 students.
