News from around the Schools & Centres KWETB Confey College Five third-year students from Confey College with their teacher Ms G. Huang participated in the 2014 Winter Camp in Beijing. These students have been studying Chinese for three years as an option for Junior Certificate. Students from around the world attended Chinese language and cultural classes. Highlights of the trip were the major historical sites in Beijing. This initiative is sponsored by the Confucius Centre in UCC. Huang Ardscoil Rath Iomghain Ardscoil Rath Iomghain won a pulsating game of basketball in the All-Ireland Senior A Boys Final on the 19th January. Having trailed for most of the game including 52:26 in the third quarter they put on a fantastic show in the last quarter to take the lead for the first time with two minutes to go. There was further drama when St. Eunan’s scored a three pointer to leave Rathangan trailing by one with thirty seconds to go but they dug deep again and eventually emerged victorious. It was the culmination of six years hard work by the team and Ms Nerney and they were a huge credit to the whole school and the many supporters who attended. The ETTA (Engineering & Technology Teachers Association) held their National Conference in the Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth on Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of November. The following Coláiste Lorcáin students received Certificates and Awards for their achievements as follows: • Suzi Higgins – Award for Highest Female Mark in Leaving Certificate Design and Communication Graphics, Ordinary Level.
