FEATURED EVENTS THE PEDAGOGY OF LOOSE PARTS – PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY A LOOSE PARTS EXTRAVAGANZA Monday 2 July 9:30am – 3:30pm Penrith - tbc $220 NQS Area 1, 3, 5 & 6 Open to the local community, this Pop-up Shop, hosted by Reserve Garbage and KU Children’s Services, will offer hands-on samples and examples of loose parts play and projects that demonstrate how educators and families can include recycled and reused materials in their centres, schools and homes. This shop will include informal ‘how to sessions’ from Reserve Garbage and information about KU Children’s Services will also be on display. THE PEDAGOGY OF LOOSE PARTS: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY, 9:30am – 3.30pm This Professional Development Day will provide insight into the benefits of incorporating loose parts into play and learning spaces and the daily curriculum. The day will offer evidence based information, ideas and strategies for educators and teachers, offering three sessions across the day as outlined below. TECHNOLOGY AND LOOSE PARTS PLAYING TOGETHER – LAURE HISLOP, KU CHILDREN’S SERVICES Information technology is about storing, retrieving, analysing, connecting and transforming information. Loose parts play is about observing, transporting, experimenting, combining and transforming materials. This session will examine how technology and play with loose parts go hand in hand to promote higher order thinking skills. TRANSFORMING PLAY SPACES – FRAN BASTION, KU CHILDREN’S SERVICES This session will look at how teachers and educators can create thoughtful and inspiring environments in their early childhood setting. FOR THE LOVE OF LOOSE PARTS – REVERSE GARBAGE This session Reverse Garbage provides insight into how teachers and educators can incorporate loose parts into teaching programs into early childhood settings. This session will include ideas for display and storage. The Loose Parts Pop-up Shop will be open on site from 9:00am – 4:00pm during this professional learning day This day is suitable for all early childhood professionals. Completing The Pedagogy of Loose Parts: Professional Development Day will contribute 4.5 hours of NESA registered PD addressing 1.1.2 and 2.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
