PERSPECTIVES ON BUILDING EMOTIONAL WELLBEING – PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY

‘ Educators who give priority to nurturing relationships and providing children with consistent emotional support can assist children to develop the skills and understandings they need to interact positively with others . They also help children to learn about their responsibilities to others , to appreciate their connectedness and interdependence as learners , and to value collaboration and teamwork .’ ( EYLF , 2009 p12 )
This day is an opportunity for delegates to discuss and reflect on perspectives about building relationships and emotional wellbeing . Facilitators will offer different insights into topics including supporting emotional wellbeing , social competence , participation , understanding self and others . During the sessions delegates will explore both theory and practice and discuss strategies for building their capacity for supporting emotional wellbeing .
KEYNOTE SPEAKER BETH MACGREGOR
Beth Macgregor is a Psychologist who has been working in child and family services for 25 years . She has dedicated her career to supporting professionals to develop a nuanced understanding of the emotional needs of children , including children who have experienced stress and trauma . A dynamic and engaging presenter , Beth has worked with thousands of educators around Australia , who report profound results for themselves and children .

This practical workshop will give you the confidence to use this powerful tool with children of all ages .
APPROACHES IN EARLY CHILDHOOD WORK WITH REFUGEE FAMILIES
Naila Hassan , STARTTS ( NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors ) Early Childhood Counsellor
This workshop focuses on providing a framework for understanding the unique issues and considerations in working with children 0-6 years from refugee backgrounds and their families . The workshop will emphasise the importance of incorporating family and effective cross-cultural engagement .
A JOURNEY OF RECONCILIATION – DEVELOPING TO IMPLEMENTING A RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN AND BEYOND

This session is an overview of how , at a centre level , the journey of reconciliation and developing a Reconciliation Action Plan can begin . Insights into implementing plans from a centre perspective will be given .
