The concept of literacy learning in an early learning service is both complex and dynamic.
It is strongly influenced by the expectations of the Early Years Learning Framework, cultural
values and personal experience. This course will explore theories of literacy development,
and the importance of a literate environment. Such environments enable rich practices that
support children’s emerging competence in diverse literacy fields such as communication
and visual literacy, critical literacy, numeracy; and multimedia literacy and technology.
This workshop is suitable for all early childhood professionals.
NQS Area 2
Completing Supporting Early Literacy will contribute 2 hours of NESA registered PD
addressing 2.5.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards
maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
