As we observe children in play we know they are natural problem-solvers and creative
thinkers. Our goal as teachers is to recognise these learning opportunities and extend and
enable learning. However, when we consider young children’s learning in STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) sometimes this can be challenging.
This hands-on day will explore each of the content areas in STEM, looking at how we can
facilitate deep learning for 3-5 year olds. The session will explore the pillars of STEM (science,
technology, engineering and mathematics) and then focus on STEM processes for learning.
Come prepared for some hands-on fun as you become a play-based STEM expert!
Whilst this course is NESA registered, all early childhood professionals are welcome to attend.
Completing Young Children ARE engineers: Exploring Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematics (STEM) will contribute 6 hours of registered PD addressing 2.6.2 from
the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher
Accreditation in NSW.

We are surrounded by technology, whether we’re at home, work or even doing the shopping.
This full day workshop examines opportunities for children to learn and play with technology
and focuses on both research and practice. Sessions explore traditional and interactive
media and techno toys, with a focus on how we can best use screens to develop new
understandings of our world, and how children can be creative with screens. Participants are
encouraged to bring their mobile or tablet device.
Whilst this course is NESA registered, all early childhood professionals are welcome to attend.
Completing Teaching Tech: Understanding the Pedagogical Benefits of Technology will
contribute 6 hours of registered PD addressing 2.6.2 from the Australian Professional
Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
