Early Childhood Sector
KU participated in a number of public consultations
throughout the year and submitted written responses
to Government consultation on A national quality
framework for early childhood education and care
discussion paper (September 2008), Early Years Learning
Framework (November 2008) and Review of the NSW
Children’s Services Regulation 2004 (December 2008).
As a member of the 1:4 Make it Law Community Action
Group KU continued to lobby for improved staff ratios in
NSW. As a result of this work the Minister for Community
Services made a commitment to the introduction of a
1:4 staff to child ratio for children aged from birth to 2
years in the review of the NSW regulations.
KU also played an integral role on the Preschool
Investment and Reform Plan Working Party as it
developed a new model for preschool funding allocation.
The new Resource Allocation Model distributes funding
based on actual utilisation.
KU was invited to become a member of the newly formed
Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Guidelines for Early
Child Settings Reference Group which focusses on the
increasing incidence of childhood obesity in Australia.
KU Student Awards
KU supports the early childhood community
by providing awards to assist exceptional
students undertaking early childhood studies
at TAFE and University.
These awards encourage continuing
excellence within the sector and recognise the
importance of having qualified and talented
staff working with our children.
Congratulations to the recipients of the 2008
KU Student Awards.
