Female FoeticideA Bane for Society

I
n a country like India which is transforming itself
with many scientific, technological and eco
nomical development, and where men and
women are treated equal before law and given all
sort of rights, female foeticide here gives a jolt to
its various developments. Female foeticide has
become an alarming issue in the Indian society. It
is an unjust practice which has unfortunately been
prevalent in our country.
Foeticide is an act that causes death of a foetus.
So, female foeticide means deliberate killing of a
female foetus, i.e. killing of a girl child before her
birth in her mother’s womb. It is a blot on the face
of value-oriented Indian society. There is a mockery in this fact that Hindus worship girls as an
image of goddess Durga which is contradicted by
female foeticide.
Women have a long history of active involvement
in all aspects of life. One can take the example of
Rani Laxmi Bai who had fought for the freedom of
our country from the British rule. Since long women
have represented themselves not only as selfless
workers involving themselves for the development
of their families but also self-standing personalities
in all the fields – politics, social work, movements,
administration, defence, farming, manufacturing,
etc. No ۙH
