Knights 106

Stars 60

The Knights have dominated their cross-town district rival since the two schools first began meeting annually on the gridiron.

In all 11 previous meetings before this past Friday night, Notre Dame has come out the victor. Some contests were a bit closer than others. Fans remember two years ago when the Knights escaped with a last-minute touchdown. Memories were made again in 2015 as the boys in blue and gold posted 100 points on Wichita Christian and claimed another district title.

The 2016-2017 season proved to be similar to many of the past years, with the Knights and Stars meeting to close the season for all the proverbial marbles. The results were also very similar yet again.

Seniors Skyler Whitten and Marc Schafer combined for 11 touchdowns, pacing the Knights to a 106-60 victory over the Stars on their home field. The point total marked a new record for NDCS football. The game was called with about three minutes left in the fourth quarter on account of the 45-point mercy rule.

Coach Don Carlson said after the game he was extremely proud of his squad, especially the contributions of some of the younger Knights who have seen increased playing time during the district schedule. The Knights will now await the conclusion of the regular season to determine who they might face in their opening playoff game.
