When many of us are introduced to dance legends and
choreographers to the stars, we first lay eyes on them likely
already living the high life. Its rare to hear about their journey
from the moment it started and the events that molded them
into key figures in our community. But…what if you could have
peaked inside Brian Friedman’s mind at 15, when he was learning what the industry expected from a dancer? What if you could
have asked questions of Poppin’ Pete and Mr. Wiggles when
they were 16 or 17, innovating a style known world wide and
considered a fundamental element of dance? What if we could
hear in his own words what was important to Michael Jackson
(rest in peace MJ) at various ages in his life? Singing and dancing to his own songs that would eventually label him an Icon in
the history books. For some of these artists, we may never get to
reach out and touch them and if we do, its often a brief interaction; hardly enough time for their life story. This magazine will
offer a voice to their fans, friends, and peers. Because right here,
right now, we have legends among us, becoming the icons we
will be talking about long into the future. I truly hope the people
you learn about in these issues give you the motivation to succeed in everything you do.
This, our premier issue; is dedicated to the dancers who
are more than talking the talk. Being a “dancer” isn’t a hoop
dream in their eyes. It is a business with results to show and
deadlines to meet like any other. With support from the people
who love them, in an era where entertainment is embraced,
the light they seek is a spotlight shining down on center stage.
Happily pouring hours, weeks, sometimes months of hard work
into muscle memory and musicality. All for the minutes that feel
like seconds on stage. Rinse off… change clothes… then head
right back to the studio. Marketing geniuses filled with ambition,
passion, innovation, and drive. The qualities common amongst
all great leaders, including the ones who paved the way and
established the culture we so love. You, our reader, possess the
determination to persevere through your own hard work, don’t sit
by and watch others succeed. Walk the walk. We believe in you.
As you read this, we KreativMndz are embarking on our
own journey. Honoring those before us, educating, and introducing you artists of any media, one issue at a time. We cordially invite you along for the ride. The legends among us I spoke about,
have a voice… and we want to listen.
