It’s a long drive down to Saint Pierre la Mer so we made it more interesting by stopping overnight half way down and staying in an amazing chateau. We stayed in the turrets and for dinner we had delicious duck with potatoes, quiche, salad and apple tart for pudding. A huge meal - ready for more driving the next day. When we could finally see the sea it was covered in massive white caps. It was super windy as it was blowing the transmontana - the offshore wind. Before the actual event I did three days of training with Jean Giovannoni, head judge for the competition and also a judge for the PKRA. There were four of us, me, fellow Kitepix rider, Kimo, his friend from Egypt, and Anna and Simon from Mauritius. It was really helpful as he showed us how to ride a good heat and what the different trick categories were. We practiced our heats against each other and in the competition area. Photos by Mark Seager Event time came round quickly and with only one day of good wind forecast, they wanted to run all the age categories in one day with a single elimination format for the boys. Thursday night was draw time and everyone waited to see who they would be against. The seeding was taken from last year’s results so because I didn’t compete last year I was very unlucky to draw the no 1 seed - Javier, my fellow F-One Next Generation team mate in the very first heat of the day!
